Tabernacle Elementary School

In 1995, then-Superintendent Walt Keiss decided to consolidate two of the District’s grade schools. By combining the Primary and Intermediate Schools, taxpayers could save money on operations, administration, and maintenance, while providing the students with improved learning environments: a win/win.

After two failed Referendums under another architecture firm, RYEBREAD was hired by the Board to come up with a cost-effective solution to address the needs of their students, and the Township. Our building design melded existing and new construction, creating a striking educational facility for Tabernacle.

New pitched metal roofing and windows improved the thermal and aesthetic performance of the building envelope, and by matching brick colors both new and old were made a seamless whole. The additions consisted of new Classrooms, Art Room, Gymnasium, Health Suite, Technology Room, Small Group Instruction areas, and expansion to the Instructional Media Center. The new design also allowed community use of the Gymnasium, while the rest of the building could be secured.
